A 'Shout-Out' for Meanderings and Muses

Wow!  Two shout-outs in one day... It's so much fun to promote great stuff on the web!

Kaye Wilkinson Barley is a Facebook friend of mine.  I have a lot of Facebook friends in the literary community, thanks to my father and stepmother.   When I was promoting the last post (A Shout-Out for My Dad (and Stepmom) on Facebook, she was kind enough to 'like' my post and comment on it.

As she's a fellow blogger, I decided to check out her blog, Meanderings And Muses.

It's great stuff!  She gets all kinds of fascinating writers to post on her blog.  I love getting into the minds of novelists and other writers, so I made sure to bookmark Kaye's blog for future visiting.

If you're intrigued by novelists and storytellers in general, you'll be glad you visited Kaye's blog.

Visit Meanderings and Muses at meanderingsandmuses.blogspot.com.  Maybe I can get my dad to guest blog on the site!

A Shout-Out For My Dad (and My Stepmom)

Today, I just want to promote my father and my stepmother.  You can't blame me for wanting to do that, eh?

My dad is Michael Crawley, and my stepmom is Laurie Clayton.  They're both popular novelists.  My dad and stepmom have an exciting new crime thriller published by Max Crime, The Women's Club.  Read my interview with them on Blogcritics here, and there's also a link in my interview to buy the novel from Amazon.  I've read it, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I designed a brand new website for them (and the mysterious erotica authors Felix Baron and Madeline Moore), Telltale.ca

On the new website, there is a lot of great content.  Read their fascinating life stories.  Read my dad's writing tips, he's helped many people become published.  Read questions and answers from all four authors, and submit your own questions!  Plus, you can read synopsizes of all of their titles on Amazon, and buy the titles via the handy Amazon shop widget.  Check it out, you won't regret it!

The new website encouraged my dad to start a blog.  He writes about being a novelist, and ideas that interest him.  There's one post in which he defends atheism.  It's intriguing stuff.  Visit his blog at michaelcrawley.blogspot.com.

Of course, I'm going to take this opportunity to promote Madeline Moore's blog again, as she's a featured novelist at Telltale.ca  What is it like to write sexy stories for a living?  Find out at moremadelinemoore.blogspot.com.

Don't miss any of my previous shout-outs!  To my dear readers, check out the new posts I have coming next week!  Happy Friday...

A 'Shout-Out' for Dragon Blogger

Before I get into the meat of this post, I have some news to share.  It's all good stuff!

First of all, I was offered a position in a tech support call centre yesterday.   I had to pass a number of tests of my IT and networking knowledge, plus a mock call scenario, in order to get the job.  I gladly accepted the job offer.  I'd be working on behalf of a major American ISP.   Well, Americans, at least some of your tech support jobs are being outsourced to Canada instead of India.   My 'Canadian' accent is more similar to an accent from Connecticut than an accent from Arkansas, but I have plenty of practice understanding Southern accents from talking to my dear half-sister Tori, who has spent enough of her life living in Florida and North Carolina  to sound like she's from there.   But yes, my accent is still generally Canadian (still some Londonish inflection exists from being raised by my father and grandmother), I don't really say 'oot and aboot', do I, eh?

Anyway, my IT know-how and call centre experience got me the job, and it sounds like a pretty good one.  I start training on December 6th.   I will still be working on my freelance web design and blogging, I'm not giving anything up.   And KimCrawley.com will undergo a major overhaul in the next few weeks.  I'm going to change some of the colours to be easier on the eye, and make the site a portal for my blogging, too, not just my web design.  Plus, I'll change the colours of this blog to make it easier to read, as well.

There's going to be no more Diary of a Lab Rat, I was withdrawn from the study, due to my low blood pressure.  But they paid me very decently for my participation!  I did most of my Christmas shopping in the past couple of days, all with 'lab rat' money.  Thank you, Kendle and Merck!   Oh, talking about Christmas, why don't you check out my Christmas Dos and Don'ts on Blogcritics?

I'm also working on a website for my dad and stepmom, authors of The Women's Club.  See my Blogcritics interview of them here.  The website should be live in a couple of weeks.

And, my Blogcritics articles are now being syndicated on the websites of major American newspapers!  Here's a link to my Ladies Who Love Coach Bags rant in the Seattle Post Intelligencer.   I'm also a featured writer in Google News.  Google News keeps an updated list of some of my articles here.

I'm sorry for my delay of my ever popular 'Brief History of the Web' series, I hope to continue with another part this weekend.

In the meanwhile, this is the continuation of my 'Shout-Out' series, this time for Dragon Blogger.  The site is run by Justin Germino.  He also runs a few other great blogs and websites, you can check them out here.

Dragon Blogger is an excellent source for technology and entertainment news.  Justin contributes most of the articles, but I also contribute original articles, and so do several other great bloggers.

I recommend that my dear readers bookmark Dragon Blogger, not just for my articles, but also for Justin's and for all the other great content on there.  The site is updated multiple times a day.

If you'd like to follow my 'Shout-Out' series so far, here are my previous ones:

Look forward to more of my 'A Brief History of the Web' series, soon.  Plus, I have more articles planned for Dragon Blogger and Blogcritics.

A 'Shout-Out' for More Madeline Moore

For the very first time in my 'Shout Out' series, I'm 'shouting out' for someone I personally know.

Madeline is a popular erotica novelist.  Some of her works include Wild Card, Sarah's Education, and Amanda's Young Men.  Each of those links will take you to the novel's page on Amazon, where you may purchase them.  You may also visit Madeline Moore's Amazon page here.

Madeline's blog is as interesting as her novels are steamy.  Her blog is full of interesting anecdotes.  Get to know the woman behind the work!

If you like erotica from  a woman's perspective, Madeline will exceed your every expectation.

If you want to know what it's like to be an erotica novelist, and the crazy life she leads, check out More Madeline Moore!

A 'Shout-Out' for Tony Moreira

Here's the return of my 'Shout-Out' feature, for those who were wondering where it was.  As a blogger, web designer, and 'small media' person, I like to scratch backs.   The last couple of backs I scratched belonged to women who are doing excellent work in social activism.    Here's a handy re-cap for you:

Now, I'm doing a 'shout-out' for a man.  I stumbled upon his blog, but not via 'Stumble Upon'.  (Go ahead and vote for MY blog with Stumble Upon, okay?)  His name is Tony Moreira, and he's certainly an interesting guy.  He keeps a very fancy-schmancy blog at http://www.tonymoreira.com.

I feel that I've got a few things in common with him.  I'm into IT, I have a few CompTIA certifications, and I'm studying for a few offered by Microsoft and Cisco.   He's an IT guy with a LOT more experience in IT than I have, frankly I should be his student.  He's currently teaching game design, and other areas related to computer technology, at Westwood College, New England Institute of Technology and Johnson & Wales University.

I'm a creative person.  I love expressing my creativity through visual art, and writing.  I'm also surrounded by creative people, my father and stepmother are popular novelists, and I have a lot of friends who are musicians and able to do so for a living.  That's a lot of marijuana I've smoked!

Well, Tony has a lot of acting credits to his name, both on television and in theatre.  And, while he does all of his technology related teaching, he somehow finds time to be a host on Radio Disney in Providence, Rhode Island.

He's got a lot of interesting stuff in his blog.  His site is loaded with fancy JavaScript.   When I go back to the tab in my browser where his blog is, he's got an applet that does this:

Wow, someone is trying to shove a bunch of fancy technology in my face!

He also does some cool stuff in Adobe Flash.  Just check out some of his blog posts.

When I read his blog, he certainly seems like a guy who has a lot of fun in his life, with computer technology, through acting, and being a radio host for kids.  The world needs more people like him.

Whose ass am I going to kiss next?  Keep visiting my blog in the future to find out.  In the meanwhile, I will be continuing my 'A Brief History of the Web' series here.  I've got a few reviews for Blogcritics coming up.  There's a lot to look forward to, both here and there.  And while I keep writing here and on Blogcritics, I've got THREE websites to get ready for other people.

Stay tuned, loyal readers!  Same Kim time, same Kim channels!

A 'Shout-Out' for TransGriot

While web surfing about LGBT issues yesterday, I found this fabulous blog, TransGriot.  It's written by this beautiful lady, Monica Roberts.

Her blog has already taught me a few things, such as:

I just think it's amazing that there's a black transwoman who's speaking out about issues that matter.  When transpeople are presented in the media, they're usually white, so I wish all the power to her for breaking stereotypes.  Her blog is very popular, it's received over a million hits.

I care very deeply about LGBT matters because there are a number of LGBT people in my life who I love.  Transsexual rights really resonate with me because my brother-in-law, on the paternal side of my family, is a transman, and through my (bi) sister, I have an excellent idea of what he's gone through in his life.

 Way to go, Monica!

 Visit TransGriot.

A 'Shout-Out' for Feminists for Choice

Hey, I just want to give a 'shout-out' to Feminists For Choice.  I discovered, via Twitter yesterday, that they're looking for a logo designer.  See http://feministsforchoice.com/looking-for-pro-choice-graphic-designer.htm.  As I consider myself a feminist, I'm strongly pro-choice, and I'm good at graphic design, I thought I would give it a shot.  Below is the logo I designed and a sample 'web ad' for them:

Serena Freewomyn, Feminists for Choice's founder, sent me a reply saying that she is considering me for the job.  I previously e-mailed her those samples.

Although I'm a web designer, I love designing logos, and other graphics for professional purposes, too.  Below is the logo I designed for Buchalter Consulting, an investor relations firm I do all the webmastering, web design and social media for:

I would love it if Serena would choose me.  I strongly support her organization, and it would be good promotion for my web design business, even though I would be creating a logo and ads for them, not doing web design.

Although I don't offer prices for logo and ad design on my website, people may gladly propose projects like that to me, possibly via e-mail, and I would be very inexpensive.

If Serena and Feminists For Choice choose me, I would probably redo the ad by adding a graphic of a female, or a group of females, with their arms crossed, the body language suggesting 'MY body is MINE'.  The reason why I didn't simply do a Google image search for a photo is because I don't want a woman or womyn to come back to me saying 'hey, I don't permit this!'  But I would be okay with my photo being in the ad, and with having the photos of other adult females involved if they consent.

 Why don't you visit feminstsforchoice.com?
